If you are interested in installing bamboo flooring bathroom, you may discover many different comments, either opposing or supporting the idea. It is indeed true that there is a great debate revolving around the use of bamboo flooring for bathroom interior. Considering bamboo is actually a grass, many people believe it will be at least slightly more durable and better than hardwood flooring. Even so, the others consider bamboo floor is too volatile to use in moist environment, though.
It is true that the main concern about bathroom bamboo floor is related to water. Even though bamboo has the qualities that make bamboo bathroom flooring ideas are simply interesting—bamboo floor resists water, mold, gem, and mildew greatly—but resistance, unfortunately, isn’t immunity. And bamboo floor can suffer from some issues when it is installed in a humid bath environment, especially swelling, flooding, and stains. Soaking water to bamboo planks can plump, warps, and disfigure the floor, and it can be happen just because of moisture and humidity in the air. As for flooring, nothing to be expects but ruined bamboo flooring.
Thankfully, there is bamboo floor finish suitable for bathroom use that is made from polyurethane. This bamboo flooring finish will protect the surface from stain and water. To maximize the benefits, applying the floor finish to the surface and seams is required. Apart from that, be sure the seams are glued together so they are impregnable. Sealing the expansion gap around the outside of bamboo floor installation is important too.
For you who use a private bathroom used only by one or two adults, bamboo flooring will not cause a big issue for you at all. Just be sure you have placed bathroom mats carefully, especially on the spots of water usage. Clean up splatters and spills as they occur immediately too. Adding an additional coat of bamboo floor sealer periodically to the floor is also worth the time and effort.
However, if the bathroom is also used by kids too, we do not recommend the use of this floor material. Remember how children love playing with water during their bath time; meaning there are frequent splashes and splatters. In the end, remember bamboo flooring is somehow volatile, especially for usage in wet and humid room. This way, make sure you control how the room in which the bamboo floor is installed is used every day, and be sure you understand bamboo bathroom flooring pros and cons thoroughly to help you deciding.
